Marvelous Monday

Monday once again. Why is it, that Mondays come around so quickly but it takes forever to get to Friday? Something to think about. Report back to me once you all have figured it out. And while that’s happening, let’s talk all things marvelous!

Marvelous is having one of my coworkers, who is back to work after a six-week vacation in India, tell me it looks like I’ve lost weight!

Marvelous is having a workout routine scheduled for non-running days! This morning I did Pilates for the first time in years. I had forgotten how good it can feel and oh my goodness…what a perfect way to stretch, work out and wake up!

Marvelous is spending a weekend surrounded by loved ones and friends! We celebrated my friend’s 3-year-old son’s birthday at the Hands-On Children’s Museum here in Ann Arbor. I played photog for the day and took pictures of the kiddos and parents having a good time and learning! I gotta say, I think there were certain things that REB and I found more fun than the kids.

On Sunday I attended the bridal shower of one REB’s cousins. Her wedding is just over a month away, and it was so good to see the family-in-law for some fun and celebrating love!

Me and the beautiful bride-to-be!

Marvelous is having photo sessions lined up for the year and assisting my friend Rachel in weddings again for the 2014 wedding season! I seriously can’t wait to work with new and returning clients. Along the same lines as photography, marvelous is also looking forward to new photo equipment and props coming in the mail soon. I’m slowly, but surely getting that studio room in my house put together. I’m still in search for the perfect desk, and my uber pickiness isn’t helping to get it done any faster.

And finally, marvelous is looking forward to the weekend already! REB and I are going to hang out with our good friends and I will be doing a family portrait session in their house. It’s been so long since I’ve seen my friend Valerie (Um, I think my birthday party in October - not OK!) and REB and I still haven’t even met her newest daughter, who was born back in June! So it will definitely be good to get some adult conversation in and spend a day with three incredibly cute kiddos!

I hope you all have a wonderful week! What marvelous things are happening for you today and this week?

Liebster Award Nomination

The lovely Erica from Coffee & Quinoa nominated me for a Liebster Blogger Award. I took a peek at her site and I LOVE it. She has fun recipes that are easy, she takes beautiful photos and she’s living the good life in Salt Lake City! If you get some time, stop over to her site and show her some love.

So back to this award. She’s nominated me and I will participate and pass the love to others! Here are the guidelines:

List 11 facts about yourself.
Answer the 11 questions given to you.
Create 11 new questions for the bloggers you nominate for the award.
Choose 11 bloggers with 200 or less followers to nominate.
Go to each blogger’s page and let them know about the award.
Thank the person who nominated you and link back to their blog

So here we go! Here are 11 random facts about me:

  1. I love pickles. I think they should be in their food group.
  2. I have been a vegetarian for almost 7 years and will never look back.
  3. I married a boy from my high school who I wasn’t friends with in high school.
  4. I have a beauty mark on the bottom of my left eyelid.
  5. I have one tattoo not visible to the naked eye. (and no, it’s nothing dirty or in a controversial spot)
  6. I have visited every state in the US except for Utah and Hawaii. I have more of a desire to visit Utah than visit Hawaii – hey Erica, I should come visit you!!
  7. My major in college was Journalism but now I work for a not-for-profit in IT as a QA Testing Engineer and absolutely love it.
  8. I don’t know how to change a tire.
  9. My maiden name is now my middle name because I never had a middle name.
  10. I am still afraid of the dark. As a result, ghost stories/horror movies scare the living crap out of me, but I love reading/watching them and being scared.
  11. I have very deep conversations with my corgi and I swear he understands me.

And now to answer Erica’s questions!

1. What was your first job out of college/school?
I freelanced for a paper in town, then worked as an editor for a trade publication in Metro Detroit. Journalism died right about then so I moved into technology.

2. Who would play you in a movie on your life?
Hmm, this one is tough. Only because she’s also Indian, Parminder Nagra. I dig her style and it’d be a dream to look like her ;)

3. What is your biggest pet peeve?
I have many but the ones in particular are a). people who never use their signal while driving, b). people who interrupt me while talking and c). people who straight up lie to my face. I don’t have tolerance or patience for that.

4. If you could live in another country for a year, where would it be?
This is a hard one because I love to travel and have been lucky to see some amazing places! But honestly? I’d live on the Rue Cler in the 7th Arr. in Paris.

5. What is your first childhood memory?
Landing in the airport in Columbus, OH when I moved to the US at age 3. My dad was already working in the States at Ohio State and he picked my mom, sister and I from the airport. I didn’t recognize him.

6. What is one possession you couldn’t live without?
Three things: My wedding rings, Mr. Bear and my phone (sad, but true)

7. Beer, wine or neither?
Wine. Always wine. Or a dirty vodka martini, extra dirty ;)

8. Do you consider yourself an introvert or extrovert?
Definitely an extrovert.

9. What is the most spontaneous thing you’ve ever done?
Every now and again, I randomly book trips to places without really thinking about it. I just want to go, so I do!

10. What is your favorite post from your own blog?
Another great question! I love the wedding and honeymoon recap posts and the one I wrote regarding the women in my family :)

11. Which was the first blog you started following?
The Pioneer Woman – not a big follower of it anymore.

Here are the questions I ask to the new nominees:

  1. What is one thing you are most looking forward to in 2013?
  2. If you could switch lives with one celebrity, which celebrity would you choose?
  3. What birthday is most memorable to you?
  4. What recipe from your childhood do you remember and love the most?

  10. Is there something you want to learn, but haven’t yet?
  11. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Friday Faves

It’s Friday! I hope you all had a lovely week. Mine was ridonk busy, but I have a very fun (photography!) weekend lined up so it should be good! So here are a few of my current favorites to get your Friday off to a good start :)

New favorite nail polish from Kate Spade!

The hardest part was figuring out what color I wanted to try first!

Corgi cuddle time:

Holiday decorations already up in stores (like this at Home Goods!):

Waking up in the mornings to beautiful frost:

This quote:

Kick back! It’s Friday!

Hope you all have a beautiful weekend!

What are some of your favorites right now?

Who Me?

Hi everyone!

I know the title of this post seems a bit weird, but it was the first thought I had when a fellow blogger awarded me with this:

Becca over at Amuse Your Bouche tagged me and now I get to  tag more peeps!

The first thing I need to do is thank Becca because I was pretty surprised. I hardly think my blog is versatile! Well OK, maybe it is a little versatile. It took me a long time to figure out what the main focus of this blog would be, but it became clear to me after REB and I came home from our honeymoon this past fall. The things I love are simple: food, photography, my dog, my hubby, living in Ann Arbor and traveling the world!

I’ve had this blog since 2007 (back then it was hosted through wordpress and had a whole different name) and in 2009, I became a grown up and decided to buy a domain name and all that jazz. So anyway, thank you Becca! P.S. If you haven’t checked out her blog, you must!! :)

So the next step is to select 15 bloggers who I think are also versatile. I don’t think I can come up with 15, so I’ll name the blogs that I read on a regular basis in my Google Reader. How’s that sound? Here we go:

Sarah Learns - Sarah’s blog is all about healthy living, healthy workouts, healthy recipes. I love it!
Veggie Next Door - Another fellow vegetarian, Diana has awesome recipes and adventures.
The Lean Green Bean - Lindsay is the founder of Foodie Penpals and has one of the most amazing health blogs I’ve seen.
Onion In My Hair - Living healthy in Chicago, Andrea cooks up vegetarian recipes and offers great workout tips.
Keep It Simple Foods - Jen makes food look beautiful and has recipes that are simple, comforting and can remind anyone of home.
Adventures of Amberherself - Amber writes about her every day life, her adorable dogs and adventures she and her hubby have in life and new home ownership!
Masala Herb – Helene makes some truly outstanding, unique Indian dishes I’ve never heard of, but bottom line: they look and sound delicious! Plus you can hear about her adventures in Goa, which is a place in India I’ve never visited but is definitely on my list!

If you don’t already read these blogs, you need to! They’re all phenomenal photographers and their recipes are fantastic. Plus they’re the sweetest people ever!

The last and final step is telling you seven random facts about myself. I don’t know if I can do that since I think most of you know me by now! But here goes nothing:

1. When I was a kid and people asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I always answered with, “My mom.” Face it, she was Wonder Woman!

2. One of my goals in life is to see all the wonders of the world. I realize this is not only a very expensive thing to accomplish, but it’s also impossible (considering some don’t even exist anymore!) I have all the places printed out on a sheet of paper and cross them off after I’ve visited one. I’m actually very happy to say I’ve seen quite a few!

3. I obsessively (yes, obsessively) count every single calorie that I eat. It’s sick really. I know it annoys a lot of people and it’s a personal struggle of my own, but without knowing what I’m eating and burning each day, I fear I’ll go back up to that scary number I was a year ago. I know mentally it isn’t healthy, but it does keep me at ease when I’m on track. I hope it becomes more of a comforting thing than “job” of sorts.

4. I just opened up about something I was too scared to share with anyone.

5. I started a side photography venture and it has me excited! It’s also sort of taken off and while I’m not busy all the time, when I do get hired to take photos for maternity, children, engagement, couples, etc., it excites me more than words can describe! It only proves that photography is a huge passion of mine!

6. I’ve been in talks to partner with some companies to help sponsor my blog! I hope this will get more exposure for this piece of Internet and I hope you all continue coming over here :)

7. If you thought I was a jet-setter, you should meet my parents. They’ve been every where in the world. Literally. Every where. OK, not Antarctica but still! Last year, when I asked my dad where he and my mom would be going while he was on holiday in Germany, he literally stopped, thought about it and said, “I’m not sure. We’ve been every where at this point.” Must be nice ;)

And voila! Some more things about me you might not have already known. I hope those of you who are tagged will write a few things about yourself and pass the buck! :)

Happy Friday everyone!

Off topic, but what are your weekend plans?

Friday Happenings

Happy Friday my lovely friends!!

I hope your week has been a good one and your weekend is even better!
I popped on over to Sarah’s blog (something I do every day along with so many other great blogs!) and saw an a-z survey and I just had to participate! I remember the craze of these things in the MySpace era and I haven’t done one in a long time, so why not now?

A is for age: I’m 28 years old. I like being 28. This past year has been one of the best years of my life, but I know 29  - which is just around the corner – and 30 will be even more awesome-o! I’ll have to make my “30 to accomplish before 30″ later on this year!

B is for breakfast today: I was bad and didn’t have my usual oatmeal. I did have my coffee – necessity. I had meetings all day at work so I just had a LUNA bar some time in the morning. It held me over until lunch, though!

C is for currently craving: Not a thing! I’m pretty satiated at the moment.

D is for dinner tonight: That depends what my sister will be making when I get to her place in Chicago tonight!

E is for favorite type of exercise: Interval & circuit training! I get bored so easily so I have to always make sure I’m changing things up to keep it fun. I also love walking the dog as a warm-up and cool down :)

F is for an irrational fear: I have three fears/phobias and I think they’re all legit: spiders, clowns and the dark. I think most people would say the one about clowns or the dark are the most irrational. I just don’t like how happy clowns look. It’s eerie and frightening. And I don’t like the dark. I have bad eyes as it is, so seeing things in the dark just makes my mind play more tricks on me!

G is for gross food: Hmm…I can’t really think of any at the moment! I used to hate mushrooms and olives but have since learned to love them. I guess a food I really don’t like eating is the bitter gourd. Look it up. It looks gross and tastes even worse.

H is for hometown: Hard to say when you’ve moved around your whole life! I was born in New Delhi, moved to America when I was 3 and have since lived in: Columbus OH; Pullman, WA; Houghton, MI; Oxford, MS and then Grand Blanc, MI.

I is for something important: Making sure the last words on the phone, or any time, when I speak to my husband is “I love you.”

J is for current favorite jam: Is it weird that I thought of food instead of music? My favorite food jam is any kind of preserves where you can see the seeds (raspberry especially – yum!) My current favorite music jam is Nine Inch Nails. They’re one of my favorite groups of all time (I love you, Trent Reznor!) and I’ve been on a bit of a kick lately.

K is for kids: I have a fur kid. He’s awkward, special and pretty rad.

L is for current location: Downtown Ann Arbor, MI!

M is for the most recent way you spent money: Had to buy more body mist/perfume. I looove Vicki’s Desire!

N is for something you need: Time. I always need more time.

O is for occupation: Quality Assurance Testing Engineer – that’s the fancy title anyway ;)

P is for pet peeve: I have so many my sister’s best friend once called them “Angercasts” instead of podcasts. I get highly irritated most with other drivers: USE YOUR SIGNAL, YIELD TO PEDESTRIANS, YIELD DOES NOT MEAN STOP and on and on.

Q is for a quote: “The more you know, the more you know you don’t know.” I don’t know what made me think of that just now – ha!

R is for random fact about you: My name means “not a leaf” or “without leaves” hence the blog name ;) oooooh – the more you know!

S is for favorite healthy snack: Good ‘ol raw almonds!

T is for favorite treat: Gelato!! Unique flavors like sea salt caramel, orange cardamom, anything with nuts!

U is for something that makes you unique: Despite having a pretty good English accent, I wasn’t born in America. I didn’t become an American citizen until I was 16 years old. I love everything about the U.S. but every day I think about what life would have been like if I had stayed in India…

V is for favorite vegetable: No way! I don’t think I could choose just one! I love them all! Mushrooms, asparagus, bell peppers, broccoli, green beans, yum yum yum!

W is for today’s workout: Haven’t worked out yet today. Normally I’d be doing that when I get home, but I have a flight to catch this evening!

X is for X-rays you’ve had: Teeth (of course) and chest. When I volunteered at the hospital in high school, we had to get TB tests. I screened positive for the skin test and had to get a chest x-ray. Everything was normal.

Y is for yesterday’s highlight: I don’t know if it was a highlight, but we had a tornado come through about 10 miles west of Ann Arbor. The damage was horrible, but luckily no injuries! REB was stuck on the highway next to the funnel cloud:

I was holed up in our hallway apartment bathroom with the big-ass bird case and the dog. Not a fun evening, but glad we were all save! Plus, this photo was featured on the front page of annarbor.com!

Z is for your time zone: Eastern.

Well, there you have it. Now you know a little bit more about me. I won’t be around this weekend since I’ll be in Chicago spending the weekend with my sister! I’m so excited to see her and Diana from Veggie Next Door. I’m sure I’ll have plenty to write about when I get back!

What do your weekend plans include?
